This was my first day ever delivering UberEats in beautiful Miami, FL. I turned the app on and waited about 20 minutes before finally receiving a signal on my phone for a delivery. I got very excited, of course. I went for it. I left my house and headed to Elevation Burger. As soon as I got there, I parked outside and got out of my car. I was a bit nervous.
I approached the counter where the cashier was and I guess they knew that I was Uber because they asked me for the order number which was on my phone screen. I was given a bag with a burger and fries. I picked it up and hit "start delivery" on the screen. I was to deliver to an address which had no zip code. I began getting more nervous as I could not really forsee how far this location was or where I was headed.
I got into my car and placed the brown bag full of burger and fries in the passenger seat and hoped for the best. I followed the driving directions for the Uber driver app. It took me twenty minutes to get to y destination. I was getting excited until I realized that I had been taken to the wrong location.
It had now been about thirty minutes since I picked up the burger so I decided to contact the customer. I was logged into the app on a different phone, which was not the phone number that I listed in my Uber profile. The second after I hit send I got an error text message from Uber saying that I was not to contact the customer from this phone as it wasn't the one listed on my profile. I began to freak out, now 45 minutes later. I decided to use Google maps to get to the location. The map now read that the location was 38 minutes away.
I was feeling like a complete failure and decided to go home and cry. I contacted Uber (via email) and explained the situation in hope that they would immediately refund this customer and explain the issue. I felt terrible now that this person, who had paid for food, did not get a delivery.
Uber replied to my message, almost instantly. They indicated that they would contact the eater. They did pay my fare (about eight bucks), and I did not get fired. They gave me another chance and even wished me luck on my next trip.
I cannot wait to try again...
